A question we get all the time.
When or how often should I clean my BBQ?
The answer is, it depends!
The main factors are how often you use the grill, and if you go long periods of not using it, for example over the wintertime.
As a general rule of thumb, If you haven't properly cleaned your grill within the last 6 months there's a good chance that animals, rodents, and insects have found their way into the BBQ.
This becomes a problem when rodents like rats or mice get inside and leave dropping behinds, creating unsanitary cook conditions. These rodents can also cause further functional issues with the grill by chewing wires and messing with the internal components.
We've also encountered these rodents perished away in bottom trays and cabinets as homeowners are often unaware that they are in their barbecue when starting up the grill for the first time of the season.
For this reason, we recommend cleaning at the start of the season to ensure the grill is safe and sanitary to use, as well as to ensure that all the parts and components are in good shape.
To offer more specific advice.
For seasonal grillers who go a period without using the grill, it is advised that the barbecue is cleaned and stored away properly. If not there's an even more likely chance that animals like mice and other rodents have found their way in and made it their home while you've been away.
For regular year-round grillers, this will be less of an issue but still something to be mindful of. In this case, you want to make sure you are regularly maintaining the grill yourself and ensuring it still gets a proper cleaning 1-2 times a year (or more if you are a very frequent griller).
Whether you hire us or do it yourself, regular cleaning and maintenance are essential to ensure proper health & sanitation, performance & function, as well as longevity & safety.
